The mobile gaming industry, which has been valued at almost $70 billion, is growing each and every day worldwide. Going into the new year, there are dozens of huge corporations each with their own big-name products both on the market and in development. Here we rank the ten most popular mobile gaming companies for 2020.

  1. Supercell

The Finland-based developer Supercell sits at the top of our list, with their company’s value estimated at around $10 billion. Supercell was founded in 2010 and released their first mobile game in 2012. Since then, the mobile gaming giant has put out numerous popular titles, including Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars. Their new strategy game Rush Wars is currently in the beta stage and figures to be released soon.

  1. Tencent

The world’s largest gaming company, Tencent, is based in Shenzhen, China. The company has released multiple hugely popular games, including Honor of Kings in China (the world’s most downloaded game) and PUBG Mobile (one of the most downloaded games worldwide).  Even though being one of the top mobile gaming companies, Tencent also owns the well-known online game developer Riot Games, who will be releasing a mobile version of their popular PC MOBA League of Legends titled League of Legends: Wild Rift, which is set to be released in 2020.

  1. Zynga

Whether gamers have played their titles on their phone or on Facebook (or both), almost everyone is familiar with Zynga. The company was founded in 2007 and has become wildly successful at creating online social games, including the FarmVille series and Words With Friends. Zynga, which has its headquarters in San Francisco, CA, earned over $300 million in revenue from their mobile division in Q3 of 2019, their highest number yet.

  1. Niantic

Also based in San Francisco, Niantic, who specializes in augmented reality games, was founded in 2010 and published their first Android title Ingress in 2013. In 2016 the company released its first major title, Pokémon Go which rapidly became one of the most popular mobile games in the world. 2019 saw the developer publish another augmented reality game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which has received overall positive reviews. The company is currently valued at approximately $4 billion and is one of the top mobile gaming companies out there.

  1. Voodoo

Voodoo is a French publisher that came onto the mobile gaming scene in 2013. The company had little success in their first few years, but things changed in 2016 with the release of, their first major hit game that has since been downloaded over 20 million times. Since then, Voodoo’s popularity has skyrocketed exponentially due to several hit titles such as Helix Jump, Flappy Dunk, Snake vs. Block, Baseball Boy and others taking off on the mobile gaming market. Today the company boasts over 2 billion downloads across their mobile game titles. In 2018, Voodoo received an investment estimated at $200 million from Goldman Sachs.

  1. Activision Blizzard

Headquartered in Santa Monica, CA, Activision Blizzard is the largest game company in North America and Europe and is known most notably for their console and PC titles World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Starcraft, Hearthstone, and of course, the Call of Duty series. In early 2016, Activision Blizzard acquired King for $5.9 billion, which was one of the top-grossing smaller mobile gaming companies. King is best known for their development of the hit game Candy Crush Saga, which earned $500 million in just over a three month span in 2014 and has over 3 billion downloads as of today. Since the acquisition, King has taken over mobile game development for the company.

  1. Netmarble

Netmarble Corporation is South Korea’s largest mobile game company and is widely known for their development of Lineage 2: Revolution in 2015 which earned over $900 million for the company in under a year after release. In the same year, Netmarble licensed Disney-owned properties to develop titles such as Marvel: Future Fight and Star Wars: Force Arena, which both had solid commercial success as well. More recently, Netmarble acquired a large share in Big Hit Entertainment, the agency of the popular Korean boy group BTS, resulting in the development of an official game for the group titled BTS World. It is now one of the top mobile gaming companies in China. The casual management simulator hit number one on the mobile game charts in multiple countries and has gathered over 5 million downloads on Android devices alone.

  1. Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts, which has established itself as one of the top game developers and publishers in North America and Europe, has been developing and publishing hit games and franchises for decades. EA has long been considered one of the pioneers of mobile gaming, having put out titles such as The Sims 2, Tetris, and mobile editions of both FIFA and PGA Tour for the Nokia mobile devices in the early 2000s. The modern advancement of mobile devices has only grown EA’s success, earning millions of downloads from editions of The Sims, Need for Speed, Madden NFL, Plants vs. Zombies, and several other crossover titles.

  1. Epic Games

Epic Games’ Fortnite has become a worldwide phenomenon since its release back in 2017, attracting millions of players to the battle royale genre. The title was only available on console and PC until March of 2018 when Epic Games released the game for mobile devices, helping them to reach a new gaming audience. In just a year after it’s release, Fortnite Battle Royale has earned the company over $500 million in revenue from iOS users alone.

  1. Machine Zone

Previously named Addmired, Machine Zone (MZ) was founded in 2008 and released a string of mobile games over the next few years, including iMob and Global War Riot. Today, they are best known for developing the massively popular titles Game of War: Fire Age and Mobile Strike which have brought in billions of dollars in revenue for the company. MZ’s most recent big release was 2017’s Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire, another multiplayer strategy game.
